Sessions & logs
The Hotspot menu has a page for each kind of activity on your hotspots. Use these pages to answer questions like “who is online right now?”, “why can’t this customer log in?” or “how much did they download?”.
| Page | Path | Answers |
|---|---|---|
| Sessions | /dashboard/hotspot/sessions |
Who is online right now? |
| Auth Logs | /dashboard/hotspot/auth-logs |
Was a login accepted or rejected, and why? |
| Acct Logs | /dashboard/hotspot/acct-logs |
How long were sessions, and how much data did they use? |
| Requests | /dashboard/hotspot/requests |
Which devices came through the portal to connect? |
| Roamings | /dashboard/hotspot/roamings |
Which customers moved from one router to another? |
| Servers | /dashboard/hotspot/servers |
Which hotspots do I have, and on which routers? |
Every table can be filtered by its columns, and every page has a Refresh button. In each table, click the customer to open their customer page.
Sessions
Section titled “Sessions”Active Hotspot Sessions lists Customer, Username, IP Address, MAC Address, Started, Last Update, Uploaded and Downloaded.
Auth Logs
Section titled “Auth Logs”Hotspot Auth Logs records every login attempt from the last 7 days, with Customer, Username, MAC Address, Time, Reply and Reason.
- Access-Accept (green): the login was allowed.
- Access-Reject (red): the login was refused. Check the Reason column for the explanation, when one is given.
Use this page first when a customer says “I paid but it won’t connect”. For one customer, use Access Logs on their page.
Acct Logs
Section titled “Acct Logs”Hotspot Accounting Logs shows sessions from the last 7 days, with
Started, Stopped, Last Update, Uploaded, Downloaded and
Terminate Cause. The terminate cause is the router’s standard reason for
the session ending, such as User-Request (the user logged out),
Idle-Timeout, Session-Timeout (the time ran out) or Admin-Reset.
How often usage is reported depends on each package’s Accounting Interval. See Packages.
Requests
Section titled “Requests”Connect Requests lists devices that came through the captive portal to get connected, with Customer, MAC Address, IP Address, Device (router), Hotspot and Time. It’s useful for checking that a customer reached the portal on the router you expect.
Roamings
Section titled “Roamings”Hotspot Roamings tracks customer devices moving between routers, for example on a campus or estate with several hotspots. Each row shows Customer, MAC Address, From Device, To Device, Detected At and Time Ago.
Servers
Section titled “Servers”Hotspot Servers lists each hotspot with its SSID, Device, Router IP and whether it’s enabled. Click one to open its hotspot page, which shows the router configuration, the users online, a WiFi QR code and the delete options. See Set up a hotspot on MikroTik.
Recent Logs and Recent Accounting
Section titled “Recent Logs and Recent Accounting”Services → Hotspots has two shortcut tiles:
- Recent Logs: Recent Hotspot Access Logs from the last 5 days, with Customer, Account, Username, Router Device, Timestamp and Details. The Access Logs button on a customer page opens this view filtered to that customer.
- Recent Accounting: recent usage records with Uploaded and Downloaded per customer.
For older logs, contact support.
Troubleshooting with logs
Section titled “Troubleshooting with logs”| Symptom | Where to look |
|---|---|
| Customer says they paid but can’t connect | Auth Logs: look for a reject and its Reason. Then check their customer page. See Hotspot customers. |
| Customer keeps getting disconnected | Acct Logs → Terminate Cause. Frequent idle timeouts suggest raising the package’s Idle Timeout. |
| Customer says they’re online but you can’t see them | Sessions only shows sessions updated in the last 30 minutes. Check Acct Logs too. |
| Nobody on one router can connect | Servers and the router’s device page. See Devices. |
